XCMG unveils cutting-edge automated MEWP manufacturing hub

Chinese aerial work platform (AWP) manufacturer XCMG has opened a new automated factory for mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs). The factory has been built at a cost of nearly RMB2 billion ($315 million) and has an annual capacity of 60,000 units. The company said the facility represents a significant step forward in intelligent manufacturing, with the use of automated equipment expected to substantially increase productivity and manufacturing accuracy.

  • XCMG has launched a new automated factory for MEWPs, covering 170,000 square meters and built at a cost of nearly RMB2 billion.
  • The factory, located a 15-minute drive from XCMG’s first MEWP facility in Xuzhou, will mainly produce the company’s most popular models.
  • With an annual maximum capacity of 60,000 units, the factory features automated equipment, including 120+ robots, 25 production lines, and automated warehouse systems.
  • XCMG stated that the new facility marks a significant advance in intelligent manufacturing, with automation covering the entire production process.

The factory, which is XCMG’s second aerial platform manufacturing facility in China, is located a 15-minute drive away from the company’s first. XCMG stated that it would primarily produce its most popular models, including 22m and 28m boom lifts and electric rough terrain products.

Notably, the facility incorporates a significant number of automated machinery, including over 120 robots, 25 production lines, and various other key processes. The use of advanced technologies like robotic robots, 3D vision cameras, high-power laser cutting machines, and automated warehouse systems has allowed XCMG to realize full automation across the entirety of the production process.

Processes such as loading and unloading materials, cutting, machining and bending, material sorting and plate transfer, and transportation are all automated. In addition, the factory also automates processes like splicing, welding, painting, and online inspection of finished products.

The company believes that this level of automation has enabled it to significantly boost productivity and manufacturing accuracy, allowing it to offer customers higher quality AWP products.
