Generative AI smartphones are expected to see increased demand in the coming years, according to a report by Counterpoint Research. Preliminary data projects that shipments of generative AI smartphones will reach over 100 million units by 2024 and 522 million units by 2027, growing at a CAGR of 83%. Generative AI smartphones offer more capabilities than traditional smartphones with pre-programmed responses or predefined tasks. Google’s Pixel 8 Pro is considered the first generative AI smartphone, while Samsung and Chinese smartphone developers such as Oppo and Xiaomi are also working to develop their own generative AI smartphones. Samsung is expected to capture almost 50% of the market share in the next two years, with Qualcomm expected to dominate the generative AI smartphone market. However, Counterpoint Research notes that the share of generative AI smartphones in the overall market will be in single digits through next year, with an inflection point expected around 2026.
