Pakistan’s jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan has used artificial intelligence (AI) to deliver a speech to his supporters ahead of an expected general election. Khan, who has been locked up since August after being found guilty of corruption, denies leaking classified documents and says the allegations are an attempt to stop him from contesting the election. The country’s media regulator banned TV stations from broadcasting Khan’s speeches after his arrest in May sparked deadly riots. His party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, held an online rally on Sunday during which an AI voice clone of Khan’s voice was used to overlay old footage and photographs of the former leader. The AI recording is seen as an example of how AI is used to combat state suppression.
