Mouser Electronics is now offering the Kria KD240 drives starter kit from AMD Xilinx. The drives starter kit is a cost-optimised hardware, software, and platform solution that provides control system architects and embedded software developers a quick, out-of-box experience for accelerated development in robotics, drives and actuators, industrial automation and motors, Ethernet gateways and sensors, EV charging stations, medical equipment, and aerial system applications. The drives starter kit is a low-cost FPGA-based motor-control and digital signal processing evaluation platform for Kria K24 SOMs.
The kit comprises a non-production version of the K24 SOM, a carrier card, and a passive heat sink. The SOM is extremely compact and only includes critical components, such as an AMD Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC-based silicon device, memory, boot, and security module. The carrier card comprises a power solution, three Ethernet interfaces, a CAN interface, a microSD card, a three-phase power inverter, and multiple ADC channels. Terminal blocks are supplied for connecting a torque sensor, a three-phase motor, and a brake control, along with single-ended and differential QEI connectors. Further expansion options are available via an onboard 12-pin PMOD interface.
The article highlights that the pre-built interfaces and accelerated applications make the kit an excellent platform to accelerate DSP innovation and allow developers to take their ideas to volume production deployment with these commercial and industrial-grade SOMs.
